Finding a place to call home

Since our formation as a working group in 2010, we attempted to find suitable homes at the Beaudesert Branch, Hamilton Yard, Beeburrum and purchase of our own site, but in 2019, we undertook a review which was completed in 2020. However deeply impacted by COVID - we sold the property, which instead we decided it would be best to focus our attention in the gap of the market and establish a formal 3ft 6in gauge railway museum in Brisbane. Along with our change, we set our sights on the now underused Pinkenba Branch. Since 1993, the line beyond Doomben since reopening in 1998; has been rundown and seen little traffic.

This is being ideal, as mainline running; close to the Brisbane Airport, Cruise Ship Terminal & perfect for visitors and local residents for a day out without needing to travel, with an interchange at Doomben Railway Station. Being a third party access operator, it would be proposed that we could offer unique railway experiences using our own restored rollingstock within the Brisbane area in co-operation with the network owner.

Slow Progress

We have had protracted discussions with the Queensland Government at various stages in regards to the proposed site within Pinkenba area, which was a deadlock between 2018 to 2021, however we engaged a respected Brisbane town planning firm and since 2022, have been slowly negotiating the lease of the core site and additional leases if required which will form part of the Brisbane Railway Museum heritage footprint.

Being Part Of The Community & Raising Ouyr History

We are focused on being part of the core Pinkenba, Hamilton, Eagle Farm, Doomben, Ascot, Clayfield communities in 4070. Supporting organisations, individuals and being good citizens of Brisbane, as are proudly ambassadors of Brisbane's Railway heritage, as well wider Queensland.

As part of this Museum, we want to tell the important story of our area and the rich history of the Pinkenba Branch which like never before has been documented.
